The In Skins

Hair 1:  Catwa;  Sumaya V2, platinum
Skin 1:  Curio;  Candy, Moonbeam, dark Sugar Town 2

Two skin releases have been causing a stir lately.  The first from Curio is Candy and its very sweet.  I absolutely love the makeups and the detail in Curio skins.  I usually don’t wear Curio because the face shading always seem to be too light in comparison with the body and I just prefer it to be not as visible.  But a tip I read from another blogger said the lighter skin tones weren’t as noticeable.  I would give credit with a link to her blog, but I can’t for the life of me remember who it was.  Apologies!

I popped over to Curio and tried on some of the moonbeam shades and it was true enough!  I adore the Candy line and I’ll certainly be going back to try demos in the lighter skin tone for some of the other newer releases.

Hair 2:  Truth;  Bree, champagne
Skin 2:  Baiastice;  Nina, porcelaine, makeup 8 brown

The next skin is from Baiastice.  I’m not very familiar with this brand and in fact didn’t even know they made skins, so it was a pleasure to find them.  The faces for Nina are stunning in their beauty!  I think I need to adjust my shape a bit and scale down the lips some because they seem a bit too full.

I also learned a very valuable lesson when skin shopping:  Don’t wear hair that covers the sides of your face and cheeks when selecting the makeup style.  The heavy extended eye-line would be gorgeous with darker hair or complexion, but is way too much for my pale skin and blond hair.

Other items in pictures:
Eyes:  Aphotic Gloom;  Clarus, ocean
Lashes:  LeLutka;  2011 Curl lashes
Shirt:  Berries Inc.;  Basic shirt, lemon
Earrings:  Purple Moon;  Roses, vintage copper

Found a Little Hope

A creepy carousel, a derailed metro train with its broken rails dipping into the ocean, a derelict bridge and an apartment building toppled into the sea.  All of these post-apocalyptic scenes surround the teleport point of Hope in the Silver Springs simThere are no notecards or signs to give a clue as to what catastrophe happened and my imagination pointed to something mundane:  an earthquake.

Across the abandoned bridge, this world becomes a chaotic medley of futuristic steampunk and a fantasy world.  Robots and fairies abound with no traces of human presence.  The pile of skulls and severed heads filling the hollow of one of the trees surrounding the fairy glen revealed that the bright colors hid the fairies’ more carnivorous natures.

No other animal life could be found.  Even this small cottage was occupied by a robotic cat and the usual birds perched upon the telephone wires had been replaced by flying desk lamps.

The broken-hearted tin man on the left witnesses this robotic wedding ceremony.  The poor thing looked so sad.

Each vignette was picturesque in its own way and it was really fun to explore.  I’ll definitely be keeping this LM in my Scenic Sims folder to use when I need interesting backdrops for pictures.

I’ll Take a Vodka Please

Skin:  Laqroki;  Phoebe 2, Fair 01
Hair:  Exile;  Lady Versaille, vanilla roots
Dress:  Kyoot;  Vodka mini-dress, white
Bracelets:  Rozoregalia;  Hydra V 2&3

I was tp’ing around and picking up the things I wanted from the Fifty Linden Friday list and found myself in Kyoot.  I love the clothes, but can never seem to remember them during a fashion crisis.

As I was looking around and packing my inventory with more of the awesome things I’d missed, I found this dress.  Stunning!  Short (check), Tight (check), Sparkly (double-check)  I grabbed it quickly because I knew exactly when and where I was going to wear it.  (I love it when that happens)

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Patriarch

Skin:  Nomine;  Aether, Deep water
Hair:  Damselfly;  Mila, beach beige  (tinted dark purple)
Ensemble:  Simone;  Fae, berry
Wings:  Material Squirrel;  storm wings
Face Paint:  Grixdale;  caustic paints

A week ago if anyone had told me there was a color called Patriarch, I would have laughed at them.  Really.  I get the whole logic thing of purple being the color of royalty and it makes sense that if there is a Patriarch color, it would be purple.  Who knew?

The whole ensemble (except the hair and face tattoos) is a look I put together 3 to 4 years ago for a fantasy event.  Even through several inventory purges, I’ve made sure to keep the pieces out and available because I still use them from time to time.  I’m not sure if some creators are still around or if the items are still available.  I do know Material Squirrel items were still available a few months ago because I bought a different set of wings there for my White color challenge look.

Prepped Up

Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko, pale 01
Hair:  Head Mistress;  Wind in the Willows, blonde 1
Shirt:  Young Urban;  Black Sweatervest
Skirt:  Grixdale;  Lazy denim skirt, smog, dark
Socks:  Kyoot;  Lacey white knee socks, 2
Shoes:  Enkythings;  Ekota, black
Necklace:  Twisted & Spoiled;  Rosary Necklace (from the Demon Hunter set)
Bracelets:  Shiny Things;  Hippie bracelet & Stoned bracelet, hematite

I almost always go for the bombshell look and that’s definitely reflected in my inventory wardrobe.  But every once in a while, I come across an item outside my normal fashion preferences and my brain immediately starts putting together an ensemble centered around that piece.  Such was the case with this cute sweater vest  and shirt combination from Young Urban. This is one of my favorite go-to outfits when I need something in a hurry.  Its a little catholic school girl and a lot preppy.

Sometimes the Wait is Worth It

Skin:  Pink Fuel;  Elly, milk, angelic
Hair:  Clawtooth;  Pretty Words, snow
T-shirt:  Tres Blah;  Used raglan 4
Shorts:  Maitreya;  Jean shorts, faded
Socks:  Jane;  Lil piggies, rugby knee hi, milk
Shoes:  SoReal;  Superstars, white/blue/red
Bracelets:  League;  Wanderer & Miel; Chum bracelets

I love being a tomboy every now and again and this raggedy shirt is perfect for those casual days at home.  I saw this shirt on one of the “bargain” lists  (FLF, SBS, TOSL…I honestly don’t remember which one it was) and I knew I had to have it.

I love Tres Blah items, but I always seem to have a problem rezzing items in that sim, so I don’t go very often.  It makes me kinda sad that most days I don’t have the time or the patience to deal with all that, but for this shirt it was worth it.  I was able to put together another new casual favorite for days when I just don’t feel like getting all dressed up.

Daytime Dreams

Xan did it again…found another interesting and beautiful place for me to blog about, Daytime DreamsThis time I was on my desktop when we dropped in (instead of my crappy laptop) and I decided to try to play with shadows while taking scenery pictures.  Unfortunately, I switched my graphics settings to Ultra after I had already turned on shadows, which then turned them back off.  *facepalms*  I didn’t realize this until halfway through, so some may have shadows, some not so much.

Scattered about the area are some of Bryn Oh’s sculptures and creations (like the mayfly and clockwork horse), but mostly its like Alice in Wonderland/Fairy Grove combination.  It didn’t make much sense to me (my failing completely), but there were pretty vistas to use as picture backgrounds.

I found this quite interesting, a giant playable chessboard.  See the little white thing in the middle of the black pawns?  A chair!  There’s another one on the opposite side for your opponent to sit in as well.  Neither of us are chessmasters though so we bypassed the opportunity to play.

More giant fairy mushrooms scattered about.  I was playing with Windlight settings here.

Finally Found: Plume and Catwa

Top:  Plume;  Jeux d’enfants, platinum
Left:  Plume;  Plumeria, platinum
Right:  Plume;  Innocence, platinum
Skin:  Pink Fuel;  Elly, milk, angelic
Eyes:  Aphotic Gloom;  Clarus ocean
Shirt:  Novocaine;  Alandra blouse, pink

Some women love shoes, some love skins, some love handbags…with me, its hair.  So it makes me giddy when I find a hair store I didn’t know about.  Recently, I found two!!

The first, Plume, specializes in very elegant and editorial hair styles.  I’ve always had a few basic go-to updos in my inventory for those formal evenings, but I usually prefer long hair.  Until recently.  I have adored every style I’ve bought from Plume, including the new releases this week I’ve shown above.

Top:  Catwa;  Hayfa V3, creamy toffee
Bottom:  Catwa;  Sumaya V2, creamy toffee
Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko, pale 1
Eyes:  Aphotic Gloom;  Clarus, apple
Shirt:  Novocaine;  Allandra blouse, gold

Catwa is one of those designers that you ask yourself, “How did I not know about this?”  I only had time to run down the New Releases aisle, but I wanted them all and had to make some hard choices.  I’ll certainly be making a return trip to raid the rest of the styles when I have a couple hours to sample them all.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Lemon

Skin:  Pink Fuel;  Elly, milk, angelic
Hair:  Truth;  Pandora, champagne streaked
Eyes:  Aphotic Gloom;  Clarus, ocean
Shirt:  Indyra Originals;  Kaegan Cowl Necked Jersey top, aurora
Shorts:  Maitreya;  Jean shorts, faded
Bracelets:  League;  Wanderer & Miel;  Chum

I went pretty much down-to-the-wire with this week’s challenge due to some RL issues and I’m just now writing the post to go with the picture right before I publish it.

Thank goodness Lemon was easy enough for me to assemble.  Not because of an abundance of yellow items, but just the opposite and only having a few in my inventory.  I’ve always felt that as a blonde, yellow tones kinda washed me out.  Its only been recently that I’ve been picking up a few here and there.  I have so few yellow items, I actually had to go back to my pictures for Yellow, Goldenrod, and Banana to make sure I hadn’t used this top before.

I finally gave in and got the Elly skin from Pink Fuel and I’ve got it ranked among my top two favorite skins in my inventory.  I’ve also been branching out with my eyes, using Aphotic Gloom (instead of my usual Negaposi) and in shades other than green.

I’m excited about next week’s color, Patriarch, a rich royal purple!
