Beachin’ Dude!

Hair:  Elikatira;  Melody, Blonde 07
Shirt:  A:S:S;  69 Raglan, green
Shorts:  Tres Blah;  Denim Cutoffs, Light
Socks:  JANE;  Lil piggies, rugby, Milk
Shoes:  SOREAL;  Superstars, White/Blue-Red
Necklace:  EarthStones;  Stone Donut Leather Necklace, Green Apatite/Brown

I miss my island.  I miss my beach.  In fact, I missed it so much, I had to go and buy a small plot of beachfront property (which somehow manages to be right smack in the middle of several horse ranches).  I’ve been hard at work building a pier and new beach house and needed a break.

I’ve been using a lot of Distressed Textures in my builds recently and I could spend hours and thousands of Linden there.  They just moved their mainstore last week and the new sim is a great place for pictures.  There was a sim photo contest running and I’m not sure of the deadline for submissions, so make sure to drop by and see the details to find out when it ends.  If you don’t have time to visit in-world, most everything is available conveniently on Marketplace.

I can’t wait til I’m done and can begin the fun part of decorating!  I found so many cute new things at Cheeky Pea, Clutter, Crackberry, MudHoney, and Awesome Blossom.  It seems there are so many stores out with tons of adorable shabby chic pieces, its hard to stay focused and choose selectively what I really need and I just buy everything!

Of course, I did take some shopping time away from the new project to go grab this cute shirt and the shorts my sis, Bubbles, featured from Tres Blah last week.  The rest of my list will have to wait…I think I need more textures.

Finally Found…Izzie’s and Al Vulo

Skin:  Al Vulo; Ninni, Fairy, Red
Hair:  Exile;  Oceane, whiskey
Eyes:  Exodi;  Riven Eyes, Grasshopper
Lashes:  Laqroki; Mascara 01, Black, Natural
Vest:  Izzie’s; Draped Vest, Blue
Shirt:  Twisted & Spoiled;  Vest, Neutral Pack, White
Skirt:  Maitreya;  Cleo Jean Skirt, Light Wash
Socks:  JANE;  Lil Piggies socks, rugby knee hi, Milk
Shoes:  Pixel Mode;  Baby T’s, Royal
Bracelets:  Frangiapani Designs;  Black Pearl & Silver Cuff (r) & Double Plait Bangle (l)

One of the things I love about the special/bargain lists that come out weekly is that I find creators that are new-to-me (even though they may have been around for years).  I haven’t lived under a fashion rock, but often I go gushing to a friend about some store I just ran across and they’re like, “Where you been, they’ve been around forever”.  *Sighs*

I’m not sure how long Izzie’s has been open, but I just finally found them from the Lazy Sunday list this past weekend.  The more I looked around, the more I wanted and I had to force myself to leave after buying a couple pieces or I would have bought out the whole store.  I love the rich texture on the vest and the way the bottom prims flow.  You can’t see the shoulders because of the hair, but there is some cute detailing there as well.

I also finally found Al Vulo skins.  They are beautifully done and less than a thousand Linden each, which *I* consider affordable.  Most of my SL life, I’ve favored skins with heavily-lined eyes with thick, black lashes, which seems to be a consistent feature  with these skins.  I decided to go all-out with the one I selected and chose a red lip (unusual for me).

Study Break

Skin:  Laqroki;  Claudia2, Peach 08
Hair:  Elikatira;  Just, Blonde 07
Dress:  Cool Beans;  Beloved Dress, Patches
Shoes:  Maitreya;  Frenzy, Bronze
Jewelry:  Exodi;  Enchanted Evening Bracelet & Estelle Necklace, platinum

Its been well over twenty years since the last time I stayed up all night cramming for a big college exam, but that doesn’t mean I ever stop learning.  I’m a knowledge and trivia junkie, constantly ordering how-to or For Dummies books, researching things online or picking more knowledgeable friends’ brains.  I would have made an excellent professional student.

But even I need study breaks occasionally.  Not the kind where you just run to the kitchen for iced tea and a snack, but the kind where you have to do something completely off-the-wall because your mind is so numb.  I’m relieved that back in my college days everyone didn’t carry cameras in their cell phones to capture some of the moronic things my friends and I got up to during finals.

Back in SL, I’m hugging myself with happiness at finding this super-cute dress at Cool Beans.  After taking this picture, I went back and got it in another color as well.  AND LOOK!  I pried my toesies out of my Baby T’s and into some peep-toed, sling-back Maitreya shoes that have been gathering dust in my inventory.  Now I just need to do the same thing with my skins.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: White

Hair:  Exile;  Nikki, Sahara
Skin:  Laqroki;  Nellie, Fair 01
Lingerie:  Solange;  Nightlife, White
Shoes:  Pixel Mode;  Lady T’s, Baby Pink
Wings:  Material Squirrel;  Sofiel Angel Wings
Halo: SoLur Industries;  Color Changing Halo

I had been looking forward to the White color challenge since it was first announced.  I knew which outfit I wanted to wear (something very different from where I ended up), how I wanted to style the accessories and what setting to use.  Until I put the ensemble on and discovered that my memory had failed me and it wasn’t exactly white.  So quick change midweek and I went with my version of a Victoria’s Secret Angels look.

I’m having a bit of a love-fest with Pixel Mode shoes, particularly the Baby T’s and the Lady T’s.  I noticed I’ve used them in just about every picture I’ve done for this blog so far.  I really do own other shoes, but having the fat packs of both styles has really been a convenient source to match my outfits.

Next week’s color:  Banana Mania.  Hmm, one of the colors I don’t really own much of is shades of yellow.  I sense a lot of shopping this week

Picknic in Bed

Hair- Elikatira; Melody, Blonde 07
Skin- Laqroki; Phoebe2, Fair 05
Shirt- JANE; Francie So Innocent blouse, Milk
Pants- Zaara; Chirudar slacks, Mint
Shoes- Pixel Mode; Baby T’s, Dew
Bracelet- League; Wanderer set
Bed- Mudhoney; Mia Palette Bed

I’m still on “Spring Break” and using my laptop, so I’m away from all my nifty Photoshop editing tools.  I knew this would be the case, so I edited a few before I left home.  But what’s a blogger to do when she’s just not feeling any of the pre-made pictures?  I remembered that Flickr has some editing tools called Picknic (found under the Actions menu on each photo).

I had been searching for a new bed for the skybox I just built and finally found one by Mudhoney that was featured in one of the Saturday specials this past weekend.  The home-y patchwork fits in wonderfully with my new decor and it has several individual and couple poses built in.  I also picked up this adorable flowy blouse from JANE and wanted to show it off as well.

Since I was on my laptop, I decided not to attempt a high-rez photo, so the quality isn’t up to my usual standards to begin with.  But Picknik has some very basic editing and effects options for Flickr users and more available if you pay a fee for a premium account (yearly is approx. $25.00 USD).  Its layout is straightforward, simple to use and there’s is even an option to load the edited picture back into Flickr with the click of a button.

Lovin’ That Crack

I’m always on the lookout for cute, inexpensive furniture-type items that have poses built-in that I can use for pictures.  On Saturday, I was curious when I was browsing the Taste of SL list on one of my favorite websites, The Rumor, and found this lime and purple set featured from Crackberry.  I was intrigued by the color combination, so I tp’d over to see it and I must admit, I was really pleasantly surprised.  Not only by this set on its own, but by all the furniture.

There are only a few of the items from the whole set shown in the picture above, simply because I didn’t have time to rez and position them all.  There’s also a love seat and chair, as well as wall pieces and plants.  The textures on the pieces are really well done and all the totally cute tchotchkies on the bookshelf come with it!  The Taste of SL special price may be expired (not sure) but the set is definitely worth paying full price (I would) and I plan to go back to Crackberry and buy additional sets.  I only wish the selection wasn’t as limited so I don’t run out of pieces to buy!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Sky Blue

Skin:    Laqroki; Phoebe2 – 10 [Fair] Glow skin
Hair:    Truth; Minka, Macaroon
Eyes:    Negaposi; Silent Eyes, Garden
Lashes:    Apple May; Ultimate Lashes, Hot Mess (from Lucky Chair)
Miamai; XGen Makeup, Basic Lashes C Black
Bikini:    Kitties Lair; Microbikini, Santa Cruz Sky
Shoes:    Pixel Mode; Lady T’s, Silver
Tattoo:    Garden of Ku; Bao Bao, soft
Jewelry:    League; Wanderer Bracelets

I considered alternate post titles this morning based on the bikini in the picture, like “Read My Lips” or “Oh, No! Cameltoe!” but I decided to keep it simple.  I knew I HAD to do a bikini because my son just started Spring Break and I was in a rush because we’re leaving tomorrow morning.

I remember when Spring Break meant driving hundreds of miles to the beach crammed in a car held together with duct tape and bondo, living in cramped quarters at cheap surf-side motels, eating meals from vending machines, working on your tan (read: burning to an un-flattering and painful shade of lobster red), consuming mass quantities of various alcoholic beverages while partying, dancing and puking…and of course, boys, boys, boys.

Now, Spring Break is driving 400 miles each way with a whiny 8 year-old (that would rather be at home) to his grandmother’s house.  This is one of those times that I really miss those wild days of my youth.

Sky Blue was a wonderful color to work with this week, but I’m really looking forward to next week’s White!  Bubbles talked me into catching up on all the colors I’d missed since I started the challenge late, so I powered through them.  Instead of posting them all here, they’re on my Flickr stream and to cut down on the number of uploads, I combined four weeks into each picture.  Here’s the links if you’d like to check them out:

Weeks 1-4:  Gray, Blue, Goldenrod and Plum

Weeks 5-8:  Sepia, Yellow, Cerise and Green

Weeks 9-12:  Silver, Sienna, Indigo and Taupe

Weeks 13-16:  Emerald, Black, Red and Teal

Week 17:  Electric Lime

Week 18:  Ecru

Blinded by the Light

I had a whole post typed up in draft that I just scrapped because in review, what I thought was a frank discussion came off a little whiny.  I don’t wanna be that kind of blogger.

Instead, I’ll just pose the question, “Why do avatars still wear facelights out in public?”  I understand using them in photos with dark lighting settings, I do it myself.  But while out shopping or clubbing, don’t they know that instead of highlighting how glamorous they are, that they are actually just a glowing blob to everyone else in the SL universe that uses the proper WindLight settings?  Just like bling, facelights are out of fashion.  Drag yourself into 2011 and Just Say No!

Pondering this important question.

Like, Totally!

The best thing about being back in SL is spending time with my friends.  The second best is shopping.  And when you combine the two…look out, like last night for example.

It started innocently enough hanging out with The Ro and catching up.  Bubs soon joined us and that’s when things got out of control.  SL in its usual fashion was being naughty and tho Bubs could see she had on shorts, no one else could.  The Great Cooch-a-Thon of 2011 followed and The Ro was proclaimed honorary Guardian of the Cooch (Yes, I have pics, so it did happen.  On sale now for 65K each).  I so love my friends and really missed evenings like this while I was gone.

Fai joined us later and we went to Emery.  I can’t believe I’d never heard of it!!!  The 80’s were my prime time in high school and college and these clothes brought back such great memories from those days.  Bright colors, long belted t-shirts and Dynasty sky-high shoulder pads *sighs blissfully*.  I was in shopping nirvana.

Skin- Laqroki; Phoebe2, [Fair] 08
Lashes- Miamai; XGen Makeup, Basic Lashes C Black
Hair- Elika; Hye, Blonde 07 (from FFL Collection)

No Pressure…Really

A blank white page.  The cursor blinking impatiently, waiting …blink…blink…blink.  Its like standing at the edge of a cliff looking out into a vast horizon of possibilities.  So this is me, closing my eyes and just flinging myself out into the blogverse once again.

What’s it all about?  I’m glad you asked.  Its about returning to a virtual world known as Second Life and my experiences of places, music, shopping, and friends.   Its about satisfying my Photoshop obsession and furthering my education of editing techniques.  Its about everything and it may be about nothing at all.  Its a place where I’mma be me and if you’re along for the ride, it might be about you too.

I’ve been spending the last few days back buying a new plot of land and building myself a new skybox/studio.  I went completely opposite of my usual style of bright jewel tones and decorated in some soft pastels.  Is this the beginning of a kinder, gentler Kai?  *snorts* Get real, its just a reflection of how I feel at this point in my life.  At peace.  Calm in my mind and soul.  I’m liking where I’m at now.

While I was away from SL the past few months, I’ve been following my sistah’s blog, Super Gangster, and watching Bubbles have so much fun putting together looks for the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge.  I wanna play too!  So this week’s color is Umber.  Umberrrrrrr.  Hmm, my wardrobe is seriously lacking in the brown shades, but I was able to pull one off and get a picture taken early this morning.  If I’d had my necessary pot of coffee, I might have remembered to grab the SLURL for this sim.

I completely forgot to record styling notes.  Maybe I’ll remember next time.
