He Does Like To Shop…

So surfing around the SL blogs, I run across the sites by Lourdes Denimore and Salvatore Otoro where they both discuss the challenge they undertook that originated on the Beauty Riot blog called Dare:  I Let My Boyfriend Dress Me.  They took a cute concept, adapted it for SL and came up with a great experiment I wanted to undertake.

So I approached Xan with the idea (though “approached” makes it sound like he had a choice).  More like I begged him to help me with this blog post by shopping around and finding me a complete outfit to wear.  He readily agreed until the anxiety set in when I pointed out I’d need hair, shoes and accessories.  I took pity on him and pointed him to a couple of the blog feeds to help him get the names of women’s clothing stores.  Instead, he fell in love (lust?) with one of the outfits and decided to try to re-create it himself.

Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko, medium 9
Hair:  LeLutka;  Inverted, glucose
Top:  Mon Tissu;  Lace crop top, white
Skirt:  So Many Styles;  Floral high waist skirt, blue
Belt:  Miel;  Cali cords, black
Lingerie:  Mon Tissu;  Floral lingerie, black
Socks:  Kyoot;  Lacey white knee socks, lace 2
Shoes:  Pixel Mode;  Baby T’s, black
Jewelry:  Mandala;  Necklace & Bracelets Pearl Rain, onyx

He did an admirable job copying the look and putting his own spin on it, creating something I would have never chosen myself, but ended up liking anyway.  And because he was such a good sport and completed the challenge on a very tight deadline I set for him…I also took a picture without the top and skirt, modeling just the lingerie.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Ruby

Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko medium
Hair:  Exile;  Artemis, champagne
Dress:  Plastik;  Shredder, heart Rubi
Shoes:  G. Field;  Vilda open boots, black
Bracelet:  Mandala; Sinra black

Since the moment I saw that swatch on Luna’s blog announcing what this week’s color would be, I’ve had the song “Ruby” by Kenny Rogers stuck in my head.  Oh Ruuuuuby, don’t take your love to town.  Dammit!  Maybe posting this will be the catharsis I need to purge it from my brain.

The shade has always seemed pretty subjective to me, ranging from a deep, rich red to a dark pink.  Finding *my* ideal of what ruby should be was…difficult.  I almost went with wearing rubies (and nothing else) when I ran across this perfect dress.  And I’m completely, hopeless crushed on my new G. Field shoes.

I can’t wait for next week’s color:  Denim.  I already have two ideas swirling in my brain. Decisions.  Decisions.

Escape from Risk City

I just recently saw on Marketplace that Khush has a new prop/pose set out called Fun With Cuffs that I just HAD to have.  I didn’t know what I would do with it yet, but I wanted to make sure I had it when the idea started forming.

It didn’t take long.

I’m a fan of Snake Plissken, the hero of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York and Escape from L.A.  As I was exploring the art sim, Risk City, I noticed that there were elements I could work with to create my own version.

The set includes four poses and four versions of the handcuffs to be used with each pose, which are very well-created.  I’ll certainly have to try to find Khush’s store in-world.  And what better to wear?  Twisted & Spoiled had the perfect outfit with their No Angel design.

Will I make my escape?  Will I make it out of those cuffs?  Will I even want to?

Style Credits:

Finally Found: Immerschoen

When it seemed there had been an abundance of times I’d been scanning the feeds and saw something I liked that came from Immerschoen, I finally decided it was time to go check it out.

I was greeted by display after display of sexy latex and leather.  Hey!  My kind of place.  I picked up several of those pieces and finally made my way to the denim and casual aisle where I found this adorable top and capri set.

Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko, medium 0
Hair:  Exile;  Hayley, champagne
Shirt/Pants:  Immerschoen;  Carmen, white
Shoes:  Immerschoen;  HighHeels Sneakers, white
Face Paint:  EY:NO; Face Paint, pink & black
Jewelry:  Shiny Things; Nico bracelet
Window Seat:  This is a Fawn & Cheeky Pea (Pose Fair 2011)

Underneath the vendor for the outfit, they had another one that you could buy these super-cute high-heeled sneakers, so I just had to make it a whole outfit.  They also have very sexy thigh boots and stockings available.  And on the other side of the store?  Menswear!  So its one-stop shopping for full outfits.

It seems Facebook is feeling froggy again and doing mass evictions of SLers’ profiles.  So what’s the social network of choice for avatars these days?  2nd Hub.

I abandoned the FB ship yesterday before they could close mine down and created my 2ndhub profile. (So There Facebook!)  You’ll find it here.

2ndhub is specifically geared for SecondLife avatars and has seen a huge influx of new accounts in the past two days due to FB’s douche-baggery.  You’ll find most of the same features, with the ability to “like” and create business pages and groups.  There are event listings, mail and even live chat.  I actually prefer the 2ndhub page layout to that of FB.

In addition, you “verify” your account by using your avatar to click on a kiosk inside SL to avoid the faux-page issue.  Nice touch.
**edited to add because it was somehow left off in publishing:  2ndhub also has a nifty little HUD you wear in SL that lets you know about friend requests, posts, replies, etc. so you can actually enjoy SL and not be flipping back and forth to your FB page.

Anna’s Many Murders

I’ve recently discovered a fondness for exploring art galleries and installations and while I may not know what the artist wishes to evoke with a piece, I know what I like.  Even if it is the story of a creepy little girl’s trip through madness in Anna’s Many Murders.

This is Bryn Oh’s Anna.  When she doesn’t get her way, she likes to dispose of any obstacles, usually in some whimsical way.  Such as when the Chef dared to imply she might be a bit mad, she tied him to the railroad tracks and ran over him with a pushcart.  Its like the bastard love-child of Picasso and Tim Burton.

“Dismantling” one of the jurors at her trial, killing the judge with his own gavel and hanging the warden when she gets caught.

Anna manages to escape and we follow Anna to her world outside, through strangely disturbing mechanical scenes, wonderfully imagined by Bryn Oh.

Even in her madness, she seems to be kind to animals, such as they are.  I’m sure there’s some really deep, thought-provoking message in this installation, but even if I didn’t “get it”, I had an amazing time going from scene to scene.

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Neon Carrot?

Skin:  Belleza;  Aiko, medium 01
Hair:  Kletva; Sam, sable brown (from The Dressing Room Blue)
Sweater:  Stellar;  Vintage Striped Sweater, orange’ish (seriously, that’s what its called)
Shorts:  Stellar;  Malibu Cropped lowrise jeans, blue wash
Shoes:  Maitreya;  Mishima Dawn, ruff leather brown

Neon carrot.  Neon carrot?  Seriously???  I’m still not over all the orange-love from last Halloween.

So…this is what you get.  I KNOW there has to be some neon carrot somewhere in that sweater, but guess what?  You find it!

More importantly, look at that skin!  The newish Aiko from Belleza.  ZOMG!  I love it.  I want to marry it.  I want to get all kinds of freaky with it and have its babies.  Well, not really, but I haven’t been this excited about a new skin release since, maybe forever?  I got the fat pack and now I spend more time selecting which make-up style I’ll wear each day than I do my outfit and accessories.

I can’t get this damn song out of my head, so you all get to suffer with me:

Drink that kool-aid
Follow my lead
Now you’re one of us
You’re coming with me

Dirt and glitter cover the floor
We’re pretty and sick
We’re young and we’re bored

I’m needing a whole vat of mind-bleach to get the image of Ke$ha french-kissing a unicorn out, but the video is hilarious.

Happy Toes

Its about a quarter of the way through Shoe Fair 2011 and I finally made it through two of the four-sim grounds.  Each shoe designer has one or more items marked for the charity

I received a couple of blogger packs with samples of some new releases being offered by Purrfect 10 and Pixel Mode and so far, these are actually my favorites of my finds this year.

Left:  Purrfect 10;  Florence heels, chocolate/brass
Right:  Pixel Mode;  Fae, khaki

Pay no attention to horrible color-matching job I’ve done, I have yet to find the perfect match for my new skin.  But look at the level of detail on both of these!  To be  honest, I had never heard of Purrfect 10 before, but can I just say, WOW!  They now have a new customer and I’ve been putting together outfits to match these shoes, just so I don’t have to take them off.  I really love the very sexy, sky-high stiletto heel.  Of course Pixel Mode has been one of my go-to shoes for the Baby T’s and Lady T’s that seem to match just about everything I own.  Now I have a lovely summer wedge to add to my selections.

Left:  Donna Flora; Milva, black/silver
Right:  Donna Flora;  Anna, texture change

These two from Donna Flora are just exquisitely feminine and lovely.  I’ve not worn this designer before, but you can be sure I will in the future.  I’ll be making a trip to the main store in the very near future to scoop up as many more as I can afford!

There are four sims for the fair which will be open from May 14-27.  Here are the tp points provided:

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Pink

Hair:  Truth;  Odette, champagne
Shirt:  Utopia;  Lola, pink
Skirt:  Leezu;  Zarah Flexi Skirt, soft white
I completely forgot to write down my style notes and I can’t remember which skin this is or the bracelet.  So sorry!

In my real life, I’m very much anti-pink.  Not because I dislike the color, but because any shade of it looks hideous with my skin tone.  So while in SL, I do tend to go a little pink-crazy.  There was no way I’d be able to choose between all the luscious pink goodies in my inventory, so it was imperative that I go shopping and buy something new (at least that’s what I tell myself).

I actually found this beautifully frilly lace top on Marketplace and dropped everything to go to the store in person.  It actually comes in a set with jeans, but I felt it called for something softer and I had just bought this skirt in several colors.

In other news, Shoe Fair 2011 opened today.  I was lucky enough to be one of the randomly drawn bloggers to gain access yesterday.  Unfortunately, even without all the crazed footwear shoppers my computer crashed every couple of booths, usually before anything had rezzed.  So I gave up.  Yeah, I suck.  But I have gotten a couple of blogger packs and I’ll show those off over the next few days.

The proceeds for selected vendor items do go to a fantastic charity ( and its worth it to go check out all the yummy creations that make our toes so happy in SL.  There are four sims which will be open from May 14-27.  Here are the tp points provided:

Aria Azul

I may have mentioned before that I love getting dressed up in formal-wear and going dancing, so when Xan suggested we do that last night, I was overjoyed.  Even moreso because I could wear the dress I had picked up at Culture Shock by Azul.

~Taken at Aria~

Skin:  Laqroki;  Nellie, Fair 07
Hair:  Exile;  Audrey, sahara
Dress:  Azul;  Laetitia, jade
Bracelet:  Twisted & Spoiled;  ChiChi Bangles (from the ChiChi set), bronze
Cheerno;  Bangles, gold (for The Fashion Garrett)
Earrings:  EarthStones;  Floating Circles, gold & diamond

Sim:  Originalia

I have been a long time fan of Mami Jewell, since before she opened her store and her gowns were available at Styles of Edo.  I still have several of her 2008 dresses that are still wearable (and gorgeous) even by today’s standards.  But this one tops them all by far and was simply stunning to wear and to see flow on the dancefloor.

There were only two very small, very fixable issues with the gown.  First, it does use a system skirt so you will need a skirt-version of your shape.  If you don’t have one, a notecard is provided in the folder on the guidelines you should follow when making yours.  The other issue was the little top jacket has a super-flexy prim around the back and every movement caused a huge gap of skin showing that prim adjustments wouldn’t fix.  Luckily (or maybe by design) it was modifiable and I was able to turn off the flexy on that one piece and solve my problem.

~Taken at The Docks~

If you happened to notice the backgrounds in these pictures, they were both taken at art installations sponsored by Originalia.  Once you land at the teleport point, turn away from the art gallery and follow the path down and to the right.  Follow the signs to The Docks and Aria and you’ll come to these simply breath-taking pieces of art that you can walk through.  My pictures and words can’t begin to do them justice, so you’ll just have to use the link and go visit them yourself.
